Thank you to all for lighting a candle all christians,pagans,which ever belief you have thank you for join together to add tribute for this small baby girl. The Mother has now been found and receiving medical help. More will be added as I get it.

POLICE PROBE: Forensic officers move in to comb the sealed-off site yesterday, as the police investigation gets under way.



A PORT Glasgow man has told the Telegraph of the moment he found the dead body of a newborn baby girl.

David Hyslop, 29, was walking along the cycle track at Devol Glen on Wednesday evening when he made the tragic discovery that has shocked the whole of Inverclyde.

David, of Angus Road, described the moment, near the old viaduct on the path: “I came off the bridge, went to go on the shortcut and I saw a bag. I went over and looked. I was praying it wasn’t what I thought it might be. Then I saw a wee hand and fingernails. I realised it was a wee baby. I panicked and ran up to the bridge again.”

David immediately called police on his mobile and waited for them to arrive on the scene.

He said: “The police had a look at the bag, then I remember them on the radios saying it was human remains. It’s horrible. It has really shook me up.”

As police appealed for the mother of the baby to get in touch with them, David made a heart rending call for anyone who can help to make contact – so the little girl can rest in peace.

He said: “I just want that wee person to be laid to rest properly. A wee wean shouldn’t be left lying up there in a bag. Every time I say it I still can’t believe it. Anyone who knows anything please get in touch with the police. Hopefully they can get to the bottom of this.”

A post mortem has been carried but Strathclyde Police said inquiries to establish the exact cause of the baby’s death are still ongoing.

Detective Inspector Mark McGowan said: “This is a particularly tragic event and our main concern now is the mother. We need to ascertain the circumstances and make sure she gets the help she needs. She is particularly vulnerable just now.”

MOTHER FOUND

THE mother of a baby found dead in a bag in Port Glasgow has been traced by police.

The 22-year-old woman was tracked down by officers after the grim discovery of the baby girl’s body in Devol Glen on 26 September.

Police last night said the mother was well and was undergoing medical checks.

Detective Inspector Mark McGowan, of Strathclyde Police, told the Tele: “Obviously we are pleased the baby’s mother has been traced and that she is well and a report will now go to the fiscal’s office.

“We are very thankful to members of the public for the response we have received during the inquiry.”

A walker made the tragic find of the child’s body dumped in a bag near the cycle track at Devol Glen.

Officers mounted a massive search to find the mother and repeated appeals were made in the Tele for her to come forward.

The discovery of the body shocked the whole of Inverclyde and floral tributes were laid at the scene.

A full report will now be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
